| Crown moulding
covering the intersection of a wall’s top and a ceiling’s
edge was a sign of elegance in homes a century ago. That type of moulding
required either an expert plasterer or some exceptional woodwork done
in a shop to produce the moulding and an expert carpenter to put it
in place. In the case of either material, the trickiest part of the
process was turning the corner, where one wall met another and a ninety
degree turn was in order.
That ninety degree turn required miter cuts in the moulding material
and precision matching of pieces. Today, miterless moulding is available
with pre-produced corners and blocks to fill in any gaps necessary
between the stretches of moulding and the pre-fab corners. Miterless
moulding has made the installation of this elegant hallmark a task
that a reasonably able home remodeler can take on alone, without
benefit of a master craftsman.
The process that has made miterless moulding possible is the use
of urethane as a raw material for the product. The moulding is poured
into a mold that produces a beautifully defined, authentic reproduction
of a classic moulding style. The number of designs available today
will fulfill the needs of virtually any remodeling job or newly designed
interior.
