Ceiling medallions are used to accent light fixtures, such as chandeliers or ceiling fans, in homes. Ceiling medalions are circular with decorative surfaces. Some ceiling medallions come with holes precut in the center for easy fixture installation. Ceiling medallions have designs ranging from intricate Victorian motifs to contemporary styles that would fit in any home today. If you are looking to install ceiling medallions in your home, you might want to consider medallions made out of urethane. Ceiling medallions made out of urethane are lighter than those made of plaster. Urethane ceiling medallions are not as fragile as plaster ceiling medallions and are less prone to damage. Urethane ceiling medallions are much more easily installed than plaster medallions because not only are urethane ceiling medallions lighter, they also do not require you to install any special anchoring. Some urethane ceiling medallions are sold in two pieces, making installation literally a snap.
When choosing ceiling medallions, make sure that you take into consideration the sizes of your rooms. Remember that you do not want your ceiling medallions to overpower your light fixtures or ceiling fans. Ceiling medallions should be used to beautify your ceilings and ceiling fixtures, but not become the center of attention, unless you are trying to recreate a Victorian-style ceiling. Victorian ceilings were ornately decorated as part of the overall design of homes.
